One of my favorite things to do as an illustrator is to create characters. I have a lot of fun playing with textures, color theory, and graphical shapes to make my characters stand out. In addition, I try to find the happy medium between basic design and complicated detail.

While this is not a character design, it was a logo design I made for a dropped project. Still worth noting because I had a lot of fun making it.

Designing a character is only the first part of any major illustration. The real work is trying to place them into an environment, which is what really makes them pop off the page. Composition is everything when it comes to final illustrations.

Based off of Zack Snyder's Batman in the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, played by Ben Affleck. In this moment, Batman has discovered a broken and beaten Robin (blood on the ground) thanks to the Joker. This is the turning point that makes Batman go from knight, to DARK Knight. The moment when Batman has made the decision to go darker and grittier, the Batman we see in Frank Miller's universe. Laughter in background glows under black light.
First and foremost, Master Chief (as well as the rest of the Halo Universe) is owned by Bungie and 343 Industries. That being said, I must admit that the Halo Universe and game series is definitely a reason why I got into illustration to begin with. This illustration is simply a fan illustration that I did to show some love towards something that got me into the industry.

The part that was most fun about this illustration was painting the different textures. I wanted to really make it feel like this monster guy came right out of a volcano.

Massive painting (2 'X 3'). I don't paint often, but when I do I sure have fun with it!

Me and watercolor rarely get along, but sometimes I can get some fun illustrations out of it.

While I've never been that big of a fan of Superman (owned by DC by the way), the most recent movie was so good and realistic that I found myself becoming more fond of the hero.

Batman (also owned by DC) on the other hand, is a hero I have always been fond of. Some people are not liking the fact that in the newest Batman movie being released, Ben Affleck is playing Batman. Honestly, I couldn't be more excited. I've been waiting for someone to make a Batman movie where Batman looks like he jumped right out of one of Frank Miller's or Jim Lee's comics.

Naturally, the two pictures above were created side by side to make a wide poster, all due to my excitement over the new movie Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Both characters are owned by DC.

Once again: first and foremost, Master Chief (as well as the rest of the Halo Universe) is owned by Bungie and 343 Industries. I did this poster before Halo 4 even came out because I was so hyped for the game. I admit, I spend a lot of time illustrating fan pictures because this is the stuff that got me into the art world.

Something about the attitude the character Riddick (a Universal Pictures character) had always fascinated me. I've always looked up to the character and just how bad ass he was. Whenever I design a protagonist, I can't help but put a little bit of this character's attitude in every time. I drew this to show some love towards a character that inspires ALL my illustrations.

Early concept art for one of my characters; whose name is Mordred. I am sure you can see where the inspirations came from? Hint hint, one of them is right above this image.

Todd McFarlane's Spawn is THE MAIN REASON I got into illustration. I remember when I was younger, I would look at all the cover art for Spawn comics and think to myself: "Wow... I want to do that." To give out fair credit, my favorite Spawn comic covers were also done by Greg Capullo, another master at his craft. As with all the other pieces of fan illustrations I have done, this was to show some love to my inspirations.

This is what happens when Jack loses to Dave in a game of darts. A little bit on the simple side, but this one is all about story without characters.

Yes, I love puns. While the idea was simple, I really wanted to showcase that each star had their own type of gun and costumes. I bet that if I wanted to, I could probably make a bunch more of these silly guys.

The whole idea was to create a full illustration using the value of textures alone. Great practice and I feel like it set the mood pretty well for this piece.

In this project, I decided to create a base image (the skull) and then create other illustrations that fit inside the basic shape of that skull. As you can see, all the illustrations fit into the skull shape, they just have to be rotated.

These illustrations are scattered throughout my other galleries, but deserve their own section. Why? Because these are all personal projects that I am currently working on. Everything in this gallery is 100% mine and designed by me. Naturally, NO STEALING THIS STUFF PLEASE.
Some of the work is halted projects, some of it is old conceptual design, while some of it is work towards a current graphic novel I am attempting to make.
